Seamlessly Integrate Flash Memory Storage With Your Virtual Infrastructure

Violin Systems Storage Management Plugin (VSMP) for VMware vSphere is a plug-in for VMware vCenter that enables end-to-end storage management of Violin flash arrays in vSphere environments. VSMP seamlessly integrates Violin’s advanced storage management capabilities with the Web-based vCenter GUI, enabling:

  • End-to-end datastore provisioning
  • Centralized storage monitoring and configuration
  • Scalable management for multiple arrays

Simple, End-to-End Datastore Provisioning

VSMP provides a datastore provisioning wizard that makes it simple for authorized administrators to create datastores–all the way from storage to the ESX hosts and present it to all the hosts in an ESX cluster–thereby eliminating multiple steps. VMware administrators then can provision VMs on the datastore without the need for further interactions with storage administrators.

VMware administrators can easily discover and automate VMware storage settings with the ability to view Violin arrays configured for use in the virtual infrastructure, identify the physical ESX/ ESXi hosts connected to each storage system, and verify the settings related to FC and iSCSI protocols.

Centralized Storage Monitoring and Configuration

VSMP provides a view of the storage environment from a VMware administrator’s perspective and optimizes the storage and host configurations. Built-in monitoring and host configuration provide an unobstructed view of the entire storage domain for improved business agility. VMware administrators can centrally manage and monitor key storage attributes of VMware ESX and ESXi hosts directly via VSMP from within vCenter without requiring storage administrator intervention. VMware administrators can instantly view performance and utilization reports at the volume level. VSMP also provides feedback on the health and status of storage controllers, flash modules, power and fans, reducing the time to identify storage faults and address a problem.

Scalable Management for Multiple Arrays

VSMP provides capability to monitor and manage multiple Violin arrays. Administrators can add multiple Violin arrays to the array list and manage them as one pool, further simplifying storage management and reducing costs in VMware environments.
